Independence Day is one of my favorite holidays!
There are many reasons why…
To start it’s my birthday week! My birthday is July 1st and I always felt like all the celebration, fireworks, parades, BBQs and fun was extra special since it surrounded my birthday. And would you believe that 2 out of my 3 children were also born that same week! My oldest, Magnus, on July 6th and my youngest, Vayle, on July 8th. The Craig family has lot’s to celebrate surrounding Independence day!
I also love this holiday because for me it really represents the ringing in of summer! True Summer. Hot and humid, swimming, ice pop licking, tan skin summer officially is here in July and what better way to celebrate that than with the most Summer holiday of all!
Now I’ll tell you one more reason why the 4th of July remains the Queen Bee of holidays for me.
FREEDOM. Yup, that word means so many different things to me and in so many different ways.
As Americans we may have a crazy political world on our hands, we may be experiencing insane and senseless acts of violence all around us, we may still see inequality and injustice in our communities or work places, but I do believe we’re still in one of the most free places on this planet and I’m still proud to be a part of it.
That sense of freedom is what inspires me to work with all of you!
My desire to do work that matters to me and others, work that I’m passionate about, that helps people improve their lives, that allows me to create my own destiny. Having the ability to do all of that is what freedom's all about.
Sure there are difficulties, sure there are challenges and there are things that I wish were different, but in this free society that we live in, we get to raise our voices against those things we don’t feel are right or fair and that’s a pretty amazing privilege.
You're free to chose how you spend your time, I know this, which is why on this Independence day I wanted to express my gratitude to all of you. For welcoming me into your day, even for just a few moments. For allowing me to share my voice with you and for allowing me to help you achieve your own definition of freedom in your careers and businesses.
It’s an honor and privilege to do that!
Happy 4th of July!
